BIO: Who Is Jacqueline Amidy? PDF Print E-mail

ImageJac comes from the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Australia, but spends her time now days between Sydney Australia and Berlin Germany.

It is the combination of songwriting, her voice and guitar that make her music special.

Her mother bought her first guitar when she was 8, an orange Suzuki...mmmm.

Jacqueline's main focus has always been original music and working on her original music projects. Jacqueline is one of those rare intuitive performers who always deliver intense, raw, real, but with humour and interest.

She moved through music always looking for a new challenge. She is a singer-songwriter-guitarist, a serious Jazz repertoire vocalist, a cabaret performer, a singer of classical art-song, a composer, a musical director, a teacher but always entertaining, and always passionate.

A brief outline of her path in music. ……Jacqueline got paid for her first gigs when she was 14, moving to play on the play the local pub circuit in Newcastle NSW. Then a move to Sydney and Jacqueline worked with notable performance ensemble “The Castanet Club” for 4 years. Amongst sell-out one woman shows, funk bands, Sequence bands etc, her own Jazz ensemble followed, featuring some of Australias best musicians including Jackie Orzasky, Carl Orr, & Hamish Stewart. In the last few years she has concentrated on the acoustic side of her music, both playing and recording.

Jacqueline has played most major Arts Festivals in Australia.

She is singer, bass player, guitarist, musical director, performer composer and teacher.

In the late ‘90s Jacqueline worked with the Newcastle Aboriginal Theatre Company on their production of Bran Nu Dae as actor/musical Director and with Newcastle's Ngorie Kah Indigenous Womans performance group as Composer.

Jacqueline still occasionally works with the remarkable “Sandman” (Stephen Abbott), her former “Castanet” band mate, and Flacco (Paul Livingston) when in Cabaret mode. The Bingo show, in its various forms and titles, has played Sydney Opera House, Craker Festival Sydney, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Perth Playhouse and two sellout seasons at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.

Her main focus over however, has been original music and working on her original music projects. Jacqueline is one of those rare intuitive performers who always deliver intense and entertaining shows, leaving audiences spellbound and other musicians speechless.

Jac teaches at Sydney Institute in Music when she is in town.

Jac made her first trip to play in Germany in 2003 and was invited back the following year 2004 to play at the Murrhardt Festival, an Australian Music week at the BKA Luftschloss and a very successful tour through a parts of Germany.

2005 mostly playing with the Bingo Show and mucking around with some new music.

Back to Germany in 2006 to play, write and record her new album with Uwe Schenk

2007 sees the release of the new album in Australia and Europe towards the middle of the year. Then touring in both territories.
